How Deep Is The Grave?
In the Toowoomba Region, most graves are dug to 6 or 7 feet (1.8m – 2.1 m) deep suitable for 2 burials, one on top of the other. This has become common practice in many regions, in an effort to use cemetery space more effectively than single graves side by side. The grave can even be dug to 9 feet (2.1 m) if it is to have 3 burials one on top of the other. However if required, single graves dug to 4 foot (1.2 m) can be still arranged at most cemeteries, however, some cemeteries on rocky ground can only be dug to single depth.
Can I Pre- Purchase a Grave Before I Die?
Yes, our local cemeteries offer many options and are happy to help you select a suitable site and make arrangements for you to pay for it or pay it off in advance. This can give you peace of mind on your final resting place, saves your loved ones having to make the decision for you in their distress and may save you money in the long term. This can be done by contacting your preferred cemetery or regional council during business hours.
I Want to be Buried But My Partner Wants To Be Cremated, Can We be Placed In The Same Grave?
Yes you can. The ashes container is usually buried under the headstone at most cemeteries, so this can be done before or after the coffin burial takes place with little disturbance to the grave site. Alternatively, if your partner dies prior to you, the ashes container could be placed in the coffin with you. It is important and helpful for your descendants in the future to record both names in the cemetery records and on the grave plaque as the final resting place for you both.
