Before Meeting the Funeral Director

Prepare for your meeting with the Funeral Director by discussing the following with your family, you do not have to make a final decision but it is useful to start your discussions:-

  • Consider a suitable and realistic date to hold the service
  • Burial or Cremation services preferences
  • Location preference – Church, Chapel, Graveside or other
  • Funeral Notice: Names to be included and which newspapers to use
  • Gather details of birth, marriage, parents and children for Death Registration form
  • Clothing and jewellery for your loved one; you may possibly bring these with you
  • Photo of your loved one to use with dressing and makeup
  • Discuss your payment options, how you will pay and who will take responsibility for the account

 

After the Funeral

  • Arrange cemetery plaque or headstone
  • Complete requests regarding ashes placement or select a suitable Urn
  • If desired, place a thank you notice in the newspaper
  • Consider an obituary article- contact the local newspaper for details
  • The Certified Death Certificate will be sent to you 3-4 weeks after the funeral
  • Notify the Executor of the Estate, if not previously attend to
  • Contact your Solicitor or the Public Trustee
